Wait. It's not Christmas time yet. Why are we already singing about snow??? Because we had our first real snow here last week--on October 26th, not even Halloween yet. Crazy! You would think I was preparing for a blizzard leading up to last Wednesday. Seriously, my Colorado friends will probably think I've lost it. The forecast for snow was set days before it actually came and I started getting things in order Monday while the babies were at school. I did a major grocery trip--making sure we had enough milks**THE most IMPORTANT thing to never run out of with these milk-loving babies...specifically milk-girl Cam**, waters, juice, breads, turkey, pastas, alcohol, cookies, all my ingredients for banana breads (we're addicted to that lately), alcohol--(oh wait, already said that one). I also filled up with gas, got cash from the ATM, etc. Not only am I from Texas, but I'm from Houston, so that should explain my freakish ways with this first snow. What happens when there really is a blizzard? We'll be prepared, that's for sure...
Tuesday night I bundled the babies up in warm jammies (after we had a good bath--see post before this, that's the bath those pictures came from), cranked up their humidifiers and checked the scene one last time at bedtime when I took out the trash. It definitely felt thicker than just rain at that point, and it was super cold. By the time Matt got home later that night it was all out SNOW--it didn't wait until after midnight like was forecasted. Here are pictures I took with my phone that day. I've got more on my real camera. If any of those are "better", I'll post them on here once I ever upload them...
Here is what I woke up to at 6:00am Wednesday morning taken from my bedroom window. (Please disregard the reflection of our bedroom lamps, I'm definitely NOT a photographer!)
We continued to have a dark, snowy morning. I had some hot chocolate and the babies enjoyed their milk and WARM banana bread. I was relieved we didn't have anywhere we needed to be that morning and we could just hole up snow-bound in the house.
We had fun staying in our jammies and getting good playtime with all our toys. We have ZERO snow gear. That includes the babies AND us. This explains why there are no babies-playing-in-the-snow pictures here. I learned the hard way early that morning that my tennis shoes aren't going to cut it when it snows even a hint like this. I walked out early to add some more trash outside to the bins before the trucks came and as I sunk into the snow with each step leading to the curb, my feet got cold and wetter with each deep footprint made. Among other winter gear, we need waterproof/snow boots in this family!
While the three of us enjoyed being warm playing inside, Mario was desperate to go OUTSIDE to play. After some very brief hesitation, he braved up and headed straight into the snow to take care of his morning duties. Quickly he got a feel for things and wanted to keep going out the rest of the day.
He ate the snow...
...and trudged around walking the whole yard sniffing pretty much every square inch of the snow
As the snow CONTINUED through the day...
...Mario's fun outside continued even more. I think this is right before he took off for some all-out running laps around the backyard in the snow. There would be times I'd looked out and see him basically "galloping" about, running his way all around the snowy backyard that ended up coming up almost to the top of his legs.
This was actually one of his cleaner moments when he'd decide to come inside for a little bit. Usually he looked all white and I would have to threaten him with a towel until he'd shake off a ton of snow--even then he'd still run in leaving tracks of snow all over the floor. The babies would then pick up clumps of it and eat it.
It was a SNOW DAY indeed!
By the next afternoon, it started melting. We still have small traces and patches of snow here and there, but it's pretty much all gone now. It will all melt away just in time for what is forecasted to be our next snow maybe Wednesday and then maybe again Saturday.?? Shouldn't be like this one (I hope!), but we'll be prepared nonetheless.
