This past weekend, right after the excitement of Mimi, the fun continued when Grandpa and Grandma Jackie came to visit. Everything started off great and then both of them got horrible, stomach-bug sick. Luckily they got well the day before they had to get back on a plane again. I felt so bad for them. Even more reason I want to FUMIGATE this house!! One of the same nights they were both sick, Cam decided to get a fever too and it continued to the next day--picture day at school. She visited the doctor instead while Cole took great school pictures. Her's was just viral, thank goodness, no stomach stuff this time. I don't think I could've handled that again just yet--still too soon from the last horrible round we had of the awful stomach stuff. I'm still holding my breath hoping we don't get any of those bugs.
The first night Grandpa and Grandma were here we got to go OUT, to an ADULT dinner! We found a fantastic babysitter--so grateful we have someone to call now. The two times Cam has been around her she has taken to her instantly. Those who know Cam know that's kind of a rare thing--she needs some serious warm-up time usually. So yay! We went to Elway's to celebrate the Dreher love of the Broncos, etc. I like to celebrate his yummy food and wine, which we all very much did. The next day it was quite warm (unlike the snowy Saturday before) so we went to downtown Golden (seems to be a favorite place of ours?!) then grilled out at home that night. Just a few hours later everything turned for the worse--Dad and Jackie's stomach bug set in and for the next 48 hours I think they were pretty miserable. I felt miserable for them. :( :(
Things were looking up Monday (again, just in time for Cam to get fevers and feel miserably sick) and we were so lucky to have a big stash of chicken and noodles made. Unfortunately neither of the babies were able to enjoy one of their most favorite meals that evening. Cam's throat was too sore and Cole was having broccoli/tummy issues. Apparently he chowed down on fish sticks and broccoli for lunch at school that day. He was having LOUD, grown-man sounding gas the whole evening into the next morning. His diapers were beyond disgusting, to say the least! Noted: Need to back off the broccoli for Cole and maybe re-introduce that a bit later! The next morning we were lucky enough to help Cam's morning (and last time for it so far) fever with advil and we got to go to the Egg and I for breakfast before Grandpa and Grandma went back home. We properly made a mess as usual there and had a low-key day the rest of the day to get everyone well so we could make it through the rest of the week a little happier. Shocker that both babies were able to make it to school Thursday! I guess we accomplished our weekly pediatrician visit Monday with Cam instead of our normal Friday appointment. The weather has been great the past couple days. School told us that they both happily skipped afternoon nap to play outside for almost an hour! They do love to be outside. We're so lucky with this 70 degree weather that they can be out a lot these days. Once we got home, though, we were ALL feeling the effects of no afternoon nap. No more than an hour after they got home from school, they were in bed sleeping. They cried and clung to me the minute we got home and nothing was making them happy. Plus, they never took their hands away from rubbing their eyes. Jammies, bottles, and early bedtime was the solution there! It actually turned out to be not so bad (once I got rid of the headache I'm sure brought on by 30 minutes of two 1 year-old screaming cries!)--Matt and I got to eat (a late) dinner and catch up on some Parks & Rec and Modern Family. We haven't watched either of those two favorite shows of ours since the season started.
This afternoon, they've officially started construction on the basement. Although we both want to just finish the ENTIRE basement, we've decided to just get the bedroom/bathroom and stairs done for now. We hope to finish the entire basement (including a wet bar) next spring/summer. Work started today and they're estimating to be done the first week of December. Perfect timing for when everyone starts visiting a couple weeks later!
So there's kind of a low-down of our days lately. In the meantime we'll be living amongst A LOT of noise and chaos while the basement is being done...
Here is the very delicious wine we got to have. Rare to find one of these bottles from what we were told. We savored every last drop!

And here's my s'mores dessert I ordered, turns out enough to feed half the restaurant.

Things got pretty quiet around the corner in the other room a couple days ago. Two monkeys were waiting for me to turn the corner and find them hanging out under the table.
The babies have art time at school. They made invitations for their Fall Festival Halloween party we'll be going to next week.

Here's what their "art" looks like. Glad they can have fun being messy at school instead of here...well for maybe a little while longer at least.

We like lazy mornings when we're not going anywhere so we can enjoy our milk watching Mickey Mouse
Since they didn't get to enjoy their favorite chicken and noodles earlier in the week, they made up for it today at lunch. They both had seconds of the yummy chicken and noodles. They're now enjoying some milk and Nilla wafers for their snack right now. I may or may not eat half of the box of Nilla wafers myself for my snack this afternoon!...
