Diaper Change

Looking for advice from my Boy Moms out there: What brand/type of diapers do you use?

Cole is requiring a whole outfit change with most every diaper change now. His dirty diapers are always explosive (sound-wise, smell-wise, and projectile-wise!). You can always count on his dirty diapers to go up his back (almost up to his neck) and sometimes out of the sides. When he's just wet, it's now leaking up the front more often than not. I thought I was just late in the game to notice it was time to move up sizes, but it's clearly more than that. Right now we're using Pampers Sensitive. Do we just do trial and error and try all the brands until we find the right fit? Just making sure I'm not missing out on something obvious that experienced Mommas already know...

Break out the washcloths

As if still recovering health-wise and settling in back at home from our trip wasn't enough, we're adding rice cereal to our crazy days! The twins had a fantastic 4 month appointment. Cole is averaging in the 25th percentile with his measurements and believe it or not, Camryn is actually in the 25th percentile for height. I know. I watched closely as they measured her 3 times just to be sure and it's true. None of her other stats are on the chart, but her height is definitely on there. Let's hope my short genes really do stay away from her...
Things are checking out well for them and their appetites are definitely present and growing, so we're taking a stab at the spoon, starting with rice. It's definitely going to be a process. Cam might be getting a better hang of things while Cole just gets frustrated. I'm guessing we just need to practice practice practice and hopefully by the time they're 6 months old we'll have it down to eat baby veggies and fruits. So I am now shamelessly asking all for advice and help with the whole rice cereal/spoon feeding learning process. Seriously, please share your knowledge!

Traveling Jayhawks

The day after Christmas we loaded up the car (hence the need for the car carrier) and headed to Kansas. It was the first road trip for the babies and they did fantastic. After spending almost 2 hours at the Norman, OK Qdoba, I'll have to say the twins are not the best on-the-go eaters--They're clearly bouncy chair eaters, but you just can't haul 2 bouncy seats into McDonalds! Other than that, everything went quite smooth. We had a great visit with Nana and Papa in Wichita. I think I can speak for the twins when I say one of their favorite things there were baths from Nana. And at the rate Cole was dirtying and blowing out of his diapers, those baths were very necessary! It took this first-time Mom about 4 straight days of him dirtying out of his diapers to realize he's been more than ready for size 2 diapers...oops.

Mid-week we headed to Lawrence! It was a super quick trip but we packed some really fun things in while there. We got to see Dan, even Katie for a surprise quick meet and greet, Pam, Maggie, Fisher, Anne, and the beloved KU Basketball game that night!
...For my GSP girls, couldn't resist...!
Unfortunately this is the only picture we have of Cam and Cole at KU. It was a fuss and tear fest the moment we rolled onto campus. Matt couldn't have been more bothered by that! The babies and I cut our KU tour short and went straight to Pam's for some bottle and nap time. We'll try KU again in a few years. After all, it's going to be pretty important for Cole to appreciate his namesake properly--not fussy, right?!
Much happier at Pam's with Fisher and Maggie

Then we got to go have fun at the game while the babies spent the evening with their Nana, Maggie, Fisher, Pam and Anne!

The next day we headed over to Olathe to meet even more family. Now the twins have met ALL their Great-Grandparents!
Here's Great-Grandma and Grandpa Van Gilder

Cam took quite a liking to Aunt Terri...who wouldn't?!
And all of us with Great-Grandma Kovich
Aunt Terri has a new Grandson too! We loved playing with Baby J. And for once, my babies actually look big? Funny that it takes putting them next to a barely 1 month-old to look big. Whatever, they're perfect!
Getting tired after a day of family fun

After our great visit in Kansas, we headed back to Texas to celebrate Grandpa Bill's 80th Birthday. All the family came to celebrate along with many friends of Grandpa's too. It was a great party and it was fun seeing everyone enjoy the babies.

Taking Cole's cue in the above picture, we're all really really worn out and tired from all the traveling. It's just not something we're used to yet. And I'll also add that the next time we have to change Cole entirely (dirty diaper, new clothes from the dirty diaper, etc.) in a gross Gainesville McDonald's bathroom, it will be too soon! But despite all that, we made some great memories this past Holiday season both in Texas and Kansas.

Babies' 1st Christmas

The twins' 1st Christmas was really special. Having their ornaments on our tree and seeing their stockings hung gave me feelings I just can't describe. Not that I wish for them to grow up too quick, but this year's Christmas made me even more excited for the Holidays in the years to come when they'll understand it all and really be excited with everything this season brings. Since they don't get it yet, Matt and I went shopping separately for them so he and I were at least surprised and got joy in opening their gifts. That was fun! Especially since this year they both fell into a deep sleep again as soon as we started opening presents. We can't wait for next year and especially the years to come with them so we can really go overboard and have so much fun with Christmas.

Keeping with the tradition here, we went to my Mom's (Mimi) house to have Christmas Eve and open up our Christmas jammies. Then we also had Christmas Eve with my Dad and Jackie and everyone there too.

Matt was hilarious this year. He wanted to keep everything super secret so he would like break his back (almost literally) trying to keep things hidden from me. He's like a little kid at Christmas, it cracks me up. Turns out he was keeping all his presents for us up in the attic??? He even kept his "display" he got for himself up in the attic. As you'll see, it was a big car carrier--no wonder his back is still achy. Speaking of "display", we compromised on that. Ever since I have a memory, we would run out Christmas morning to our "display"-our big gift-in front of the tree that Santa brought for us. You know, because that's what Santa brought off his sleigh to leave for us...! Then we have wrapped gifts under the tree from our family and friends. Matt is used to every gift being wrapped--which kind of confuses me, because how did Santa get our exact same wrapping paper and have our exact same handwriting? Anyway, I set out my "display" I got for the babies and he wrapped his stuff. Except the car carrier.

Look at all 3 of our babies playing with their Christmas presents that morning
I very much loved my Christmas present. It's the reason I'm able to blog now!

Cam is exhausted from all her presents!
So are Cole and I
A good picture with their "Pampa"
We had Christmas morning with just the 5 of us then headed over to my Mom's. After we were properly spoiled there we went over to my Dad's. It was a full day of family fun and we'll have fond memories of the twins' 1st Christmas. Once home, it was a late night since we were leaving for Kansas the next day...
