Traveling Jayhawks

The day after Christmas we loaded up the car (hence the need for the car carrier) and headed to Kansas. It was the first road trip for the babies and they did fantastic. After spending almost 2 hours at the Norman, OK Qdoba, I'll have to say the twins are not the best on-the-go eaters--They're clearly bouncy chair eaters, but you just can't haul 2 bouncy seats into McDonalds! Other than that, everything went quite smooth. We had a great visit with Nana and Papa in Wichita. I think I can speak for the twins when I say one of their favorite things there were baths from Nana. And at the rate Cole was dirtying and blowing out of his diapers, those baths were very necessary! It took this first-time Mom about 4 straight days of him dirtying out of his diapers to realize he's been more than ready for size 2 diapers...oops.

Mid-week we headed to Lawrence! It was a super quick trip but we packed some really fun things in while there. We got to see Dan, even Katie for a surprise quick meet and greet, Pam, Maggie, Fisher, Anne, and the beloved KU Basketball game that night!
...For my GSP girls, couldn't resist...!
Unfortunately this is the only picture we have of Cam and Cole at KU. It was a fuss and tear fest the moment we rolled onto campus. Matt couldn't have been more bothered by that! The babies and I cut our KU tour short and went straight to Pam's for some bottle and nap time. We'll try KU again in a few years. After all, it's going to be pretty important for Cole to appreciate his namesake properly--not fussy, right?!
Much happier at Pam's with Fisher and Maggie

Then we got to go have fun at the game while the babies spent the evening with their Nana, Maggie, Fisher, Pam and Anne!

The next day we headed over to Olathe to meet even more family. Now the twins have met ALL their Great-Grandparents!
Here's Great-Grandma and Grandpa Van Gilder

Cam took quite a liking to Aunt Terri...who wouldn't?!
And all of us with Great-Grandma Kovich
Aunt Terri has a new Grandson too! We loved playing with Baby J. And for once, my babies actually look big? Funny that it takes putting them next to a barely 1 month-old to look big. Whatever, they're perfect!
Getting tired after a day of family fun

After our great visit in Kansas, we headed back to Texas to celebrate Grandpa Bill's 80th Birthday. All the family came to celebrate along with many friends of Grandpa's too. It was a great party and it was fun seeing everyone enjoy the babies.

Taking Cole's cue in the above picture, we're all really really worn out and tired from all the traveling. It's just not something we're used to yet. And I'll also add that the next time we have to change Cole entirely (dirty diaper, new clothes from the dirty diaper, etc.) in a gross Gainesville McDonald's bathroom, it will be too soon! But despite all that, we made some great memories this past Holiday season both in Texas and Kansas.

  1. Great pictures! Look like Kansas was fun! Well, except the dirty blowouts! The twins will love KU in no time! I have faith!

  2. I hope they like KU. Matt was not happy-the twins got a lecture in the car when we had to leave campus earlier than he wanted. Yes, the lectures have begun at only 4 months-old!

I should've taken a picture of Stouffer Place for you. You guys lived there one time, right?! Of course they looked as quality as ever :) :)
