Balls and Light Switches

Cole has been saying his first real word non-stop for about a week and a half now. "BALL"! He said it for the first time when we were reading a KU Jayhawk book. He pointed at a picture of a basketball on one page, and said "ball, ball". What a proud Jayhawk moment, even. And he'll spot a ball anywhere. When we signed up at our YMCA he all of a sudden started saying "Ball, Ball, Ball", pointing excitedly at something up in the distance. We finally figured out it was a random brochure up a bit on the counter that had a picture of a boy dribbling a basketball on the front. Yep, there's a ball Cole. And if something has a circle pattern on it, he points at every circle he can and says "ball". Close enough. The best is spotting actual balls in books, during Mickey Mouse, and this commercial they play on Sprout all the time it seems for this ball popper toy. He carries around these little plastic balls and much to Mario's excitement, tosses them across the room to then go and retrieve. Mario has taught him how to play ball well.

Here Cole is saying "ball, ball, ..." pointing at this spinner thing full of little balls on this toy.
Camryn still isn't saying a clear word yet, but the girl will get going and babble non-stop. She's got a lot to say. She'll say things in the form of a question, "Gah, gah ,gah???". She'll say things very excited, "Jah Jah JAH JAH!!!" and she even will tell secrets (or something super big and important that requires a soft, secretive tone) "bah, BAH, bah bah...". She likes to "read" too. We often find her sitting or crouched in a squatting position very seriously flipping through pages of all her hundreds of books. Sometimes that's when we'll hear her do her soft, secretive talking to the book "tzsh, TZSH, tzsh"... She also started taking steps a couple weeks ago. She slowly but surely will walk across an entire room. She gets really excited when she does it.

Cole maneuvers his walker toy around one-handed (usually holding a ball in the other hand) and really he doesn't even need it. He's pretty much walking everywhere now. He'll go through spells where he crab crawls, but then you'll notice him stop and like remember--oh yeah, I can walk. Cam is more into hers now. She squeals with excitement as she walks with it all over the house now. She's not quite ready to one-hand it yet, but I bet she'll get to that point soon.
The best thing Cam has mastered just this weekend is pushing on and off the light switches. The light switches in our house are kind of weird. They're all really low--they hit short 5'1 me right at my hip. Supposedly this house (like many others in this section of our neighborhood) started out being built handicapped accessible. But then as they kept building they scratched that idea I guess, because the light switches are the only things handicapped-friendly in here. Well, they're wheelchair-friendly AND 1-year old friendly. The babies can now reach them and Cam has totally figured out how the whole turning-on-and-off-the-lights thing works.

And just a closing picture. Doesn't she fill out and wear her "skinny leggings" well?! Seriously, the tag on these leggings said they are "skinny" fit!
