NYC-1st round of stalking KU Basketball

Soon before Thanksgiving, I got to go on a fun girls trip to NYC! It revolved around one of the tournaments KU was playing in there. Kind of a warm up to when I'd be seeing them in Maui just a week later. I had some KU stalking issues back in November...

Before the games, we got to see some AWESOME shows. First up "Memphis". So good.
After Memphis, the excitement continued. First we saw Judith Light aka Angela Bower signing autographs at the theater next to us. (I, at least, was kind of excited to spot Angela from "Who's The Boss"!) But even better was at the theater around the corner where we got to finally see Harry Connick Jr.! His new show on Broadway actually premiered that night. It was a long wait to catch a glimpse of him--but worth it. His family was out there too. They all just acted so normal. Once he was out, he and his family and some others simply just walked down the street to a restaurant. I forget how "normal" people are in New York. When Cheryl and Rachel and I saw Spring Awakening years ago, (starring Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff from GLEE) after the actors came out they so normally just walked out and down the street off into the night. Kind of cool.

The next night we got to see "Book of Mormon". O-M-Gosh it was hilarious and so good!!!! Just as I love hearing spectacular, unforgettable music live at Broadway shows, I also love laughing uncontrollably during them too. "Book of Mormon" did not disappoint in the hilarious factor.

So look super close at the picture below--I promise it's Harry Connick Jr. My camera's flash, of course, decided to be weird at that very moment...
We also got to visit the World Trade Center Memorial. It was overwhelming. Really, really sad and moving. I'm glad I went, but I was overcome with emotion. I wasn't expecting it to slam me so hard, but as an American, it can't be helped--Really, as a human being, it's impossible not to feel here. I remember before the fountains were there, it was so depressing, all fenced up with the big holes, etc. The fountains and memorials here now are stunning. Their beauty is something this place definitely deserves. I'm glad I got to experience the visit of this memorial. I'll look forward to coming back to it years and years from now with my family again.

Game Time at Madison Square Garden!

We're all representing here. Cathy went to Duke so the first game (Duke vs. Michigan St.) was a good one for her. We got to watch Coach K get his record breaking win. Our game against Kentucky was next. We hung with them the first half--but then the second half wasn't so fun for us Jayhawks. I wanted to walk around outside the seats more and do more celebrity spotting. I'm proud to say we instantly spotted all our beloved previous Jayhawk players like Mario Chalmers, Russell Robinson, Cole Aldrich, etc. Sitting right there with them was Jason Sudeikis (sp.?) from SNL, Paul Rudd, and....Josh Groban...!???? Not sure how Josh Groban fits in the mix, but I'm happy he's a Jayhawk fan! I also had a moment back from 1997 or whenever it was that I was in college and all about Ryan Robertson---We instantly spotted him in passing and as soon as we yelled "Ryan!" and he turned to look, I instantly ducked behind Jennifer in true Wendy form. Guess the crush is still alive?...

  2. OMG Jess! Clearly the Ryan Robertson crush is going strong. I'm a spaz. We totally hollered his name, and the second he turned around I made this big ordeal of ducking behind the people I was with.--Actually we ALL kind of hid for some crazy reason???

By the way--I'm reminded of your Frank Martin comment on fb the other day. He's HILARIOUS!!! We CRACK up every time we get to see him on TV, he's awesome. When he gets to yelling--omg. We also love to laugh at how absolutely humongous his whiteboard is during the time outs...??!! Love it.
