First Plane Trip

Back when we went to Colorado to find our great house, it was actually a family trip. We were fortunate that my Mom could travel with us and be both Mimi and the Nanny. We're also grateful we were able to split our time with the Hendrick's in Ft. Collins--and that the babies and my Mom could stay there with them the whole time while we took care of biz in Denver most of the week. All that meant it was time for the babies' first plane trip. The trip up was a huge learning experience. I learned that I don't really look forward to flying with these 2 monkeys for a while and it will be nice when they're a little older and could hopefully be entertained by a movie. Luckily, I also learned after the flight up what the Benadryl dosage is for these two, which actually made for a much more pleasant flight back. We were doomed from the get-go with the flight up. First of all we were kind of separated. We bought an extra plane ticket so we'd ideally have a whole row for 2 adults and 2 babies. That didn't work out--instead it was my Mom and I in a middle and window and Matt getting the window and middle behind us. I'm sure our aisle neighbors were ready for a stiff drink when we arrived. Also, we sat at the gate--not moving whatsoever--for 45 minutes. This totally threw off my timing with bottles when ascending, of course. It also made for a very restless Cole. We had the jumping, climbing, and scream fest all in the hour or so before we ever even took off. Meanwhile, here is what Camryn looked like for the first half of the trip (1 hour delay included). We were so lucky for this considering her brother turned into a wild chimpanzee before our very eyes!

Here's a rare still-ish moment we got of Cole during his craze.
And FINALLY, he crashed. Right in time for Camryn to wake up and start monkeying around. My Mom and I got to wrangle Cole while Matt got the pleasure of then being Camryn's zookeeper in the row behind us.
We finally landed--but then came the figuring out of how to get ALL our luggage downstairs to the pick up area to meet Matt with the rental car. It involved 2 trips, all while the babies were losing it again. I couldn't blame them at that point. After ridiculous delays and waits, I was ready to just settle somewhere myself. They wanted to be to our destination to be free and crawl. I wanted to be to our destination so I could drink.

Finally in the car on our way to Ft. Collins after a long day of traveling, both babies were wiped out. After snapping these pics, I too, closed my eyes a bit. And this was just day 1!

The babies had a great time with their Mimi and with Maya and Cooper and all the Hendricks. Here's an example of the food mongers they've become. They (especially Cole) feel immediately entitled to anything anyone is eating around them. They beg worse than dogs.

It was a very productive and successful week in Colorado back in July. We found our house, familiarized ourselves with our new surroundings somewhat, and spent fun times with family. It was such a relief to Benadryl up the babies on the flight going home. They were less anxious which made everyone more relaxed. They even got a proper nap in! It also helped that our flights were on time too, and that we got our ideal seating arrangement this time around. Not that I'm ready to book their next plane ticket necessarily, but at least the first one is under our belt.

  1. Oh I feel your pain. LOL Traveling with one baby was enough for me...if I weren't the only adult on the trip with her, I would have had myself a drink too! Good luck with the big move.
